Patriotism makes sure to have a sense of unity among the people. India has been the nation with the motto Vasudiaiva Kutumbakam, the world is my home. The name India comes from the word Sindhu. The religion of Hinduism also derives from the name of the same River i.e. Hinduism.
It is the oldest living civilization in the world. We should be proud of our history and heritage. However, it is also a fact that our ancestors did wrong in the name of the Caste System which was supposed to be a Varna System. We have to accept our past and understand the richest cultures of the world which is still intact. We must be united.

If there exists any first Patriot of United India, it is Chanakya or Kautilya. He had dreamt of united India, 300 years before the birth of Jesus Christ. We should understand that in the other civilizations, there was probably no sense of belonging. But that time also, we the Indians had such a great Idea of unity.
At the same time, there was another Patriot named Chandra Gupta Maurya. He belonged to the lower caste (slave) but he became king of one of the largest kingdoms of India. This proves there was probably no such rigid caste system in history.
India also had female Patriots like Rani Lakshmi Bai. This proves a sense of Gender Equality. She fought for the country while raising her child. She was a great fighter and her love for the nation was unconditional.
Coming to modern times, Subhash Chandra Bose can be termed as a true patriot. He even successfully negotiated with Hitler. There was a history that Hitler never accepted people other than his race. However, Subhash Chandra Bose was the one who made him convinced about his idea of Patriotism.
